Avian Flu - Bird Flu - Spanish Flu - Black Plague

Whatever name the new flu pandemic goes by, it is coming and when it arrives, it is going to kill hundreds of thousands or possibly millions of people. Some say it will not be here for up to 15 years, yet others say it will be here this Flu season. Regardless of when it comes, the world's traditional medical community will not be prepared, for this simple reason - no one knows, at this point, into what form the virus will mutate. Not until the first few cases of human to human transfer of the virus, can anyone say they have an anti-viral drug to combat the deadly Bird Flu.

Currently this virus has spread between domestic fowl, such as chickens and ducks, in the Asian regions. Because people live in close proximity of these birds, some have contracted the virus.  They have eaten birds infected with the virus, rather than destroy them. In some cases they have used the infected birds as food for other animals, which they sell in markets for human consumption. The most common link to the spread of the virus is the lack of good hygiene and sanitary conditions in these developing countries.

Most agree that all it will take for the virus to mutate into a form conducive to human to human transmission is for a person to have the common flu and then contract the H5N1 virus (now known as the Bird Flu).  Because the "common" Influenza virus is very adept at changing from year to year, it will easily combine with traits of the Bird Flu.  At this point most people have some immunity to the common flu that has been going around for the past several years, but once the H5N1 and common flu virus combine there will be no immunity to this new strain of virus.

You have heard some health officials talking about Tamiflu as a reliable means of controlling any threat of this outbreak. However,  honest and informed officials say there is no way we can even begin to know what anti-viral drug to produce until the new human to human virus is identified and researched.  Anyone that tells you there is an anti-viral drug already being developed to stop this next pandemic is either misinformed or misled.

The U.S. government officials are saying it will be anywhere between 4 to 9 months before enough doses of the anti-viral drug could be produced to vaccinate the American population. The Pandemic of 1918, which has recently been discovered to be a form of The Bird Flu, killed people within 24 to 48 hours in the majority of cases.  Can you imagine how many would die in 4 to 9 months before an affective vaccine is created and distributed?   Additionally, there is the question of who will oversee this creation and distribution. We have all seen how effective FEMA was during this hurricane season.  We must have an alternative resource to rely on while a viable vaccine is created.

Just think about a reduction of 20% of the police and fire departments and other governmental services we have grown accustom to protect us. Transportation, production, and distribution of products that we use every day will come to a screeching halt because people who do those jobs will be dead or dying, or at best bedridden.
