Neale works an ordinary job, in an ordinary American town. He repeats his day-to-day activities with as much enthusiasm as such tasks warrant. On one particular day, Neale has a terrible car accident in which he breaks his neck. Having let his insurance policy expire, he loses his apartment as a result. Burdened with a neck brace and homelessness, Neale adjusts to a new way of life, on the streets with fellow homeless individuals. Angry at the world and a seemingly careless God, Neale writes a letter to his Lord, asking a series of ‘who’s, what’s and why’s?’ Much to Neale’s surprise, God answers, and their ensuing conversations are the basis for Walsch’s novel, which sat on the NY Times best-sellers list for years and inspired millions to take charge of their lives again.
