Dr. William Gutman obtained his medical degree in Vienna and was a Professor of Homeopathy at the New York Medical College. He was President of many Homeopathic bodies, and an acknowledged authority on the Materia Medica. This excellent book contains fascinating and insightful lectures on Hahnemann, Hippocrates, the Law of Similars and the mode of remedy action but is essentially a Materia Medica of 17 of the most common remedies. His penetrating insight goes into the core of the action of these remedies, he has combined philosophy and science in tracing the link between the symptoms and the habitat and characteristics of the mineral, plant or animal the remedy came from. As a comment on the back cover of the book says – “His thoughts are profound and imaginative and his presentation scholarly and beautiful, at times even poetical.” The remedies covered are: - sil., calc. carb., bry., apis, puls., alum., merc., aur., nat. mur., gels., iod., sep., lyc., lach., arn., acon. and bell.
