Calvin B. Knerr (1847 – 1940) was inspired by his father (a lay homeopathic practitioner) to become a homeopath. He graduated in 1869 and became Constantine Hering’s assistant. He lived in Hering’s house and in 1874 married Hering’s daughter. Whilst living in Hering’s house he kept very detailed diaries of conversations, happenings and events that occurred on a day-to-day basis. This remarkable book was written when Knerr was in his eighties and nineties and shows an amazing memory for detail (aided by the diaries) and is a wonderful insight into the family life of Hering and of the man himself – his thoughts and opinions. Highly recommended for all people interested in the history of Homeopathy.
