Four volumes of Materia Medica plus Repertory. Richard Hughes (1836 - 1902) worked as a Homeopath in Brighton, England for most of his life, was the author of the Manual of Pharmacodynamics in 1867 and the Manual of Therapeutics shortly thereafter. He was an officer of the British Homoeopathic Society and the Editor of the British Journal of Homoeopathy and worked with T.F. Allen on the 10 volume Encyclopaedia. He was known for his stubborn advocacy of the low potency method of Homeopathic treatment and was responsible for much ill feeling amongst his peers. The initial four volume set was compiled by Hughes with the help of Dr. Jabez Dake and originally published in 1885. It contains records of many provings undertaken to that date. To quote Julian Winston from his Heritage of Homoeopathic Literature: - "As usual with the work by Hughes, the scholarship is outstanding. If you have questions about symptoms in Allen's 10 volumes, a check of these four volumes might resolve doubts. But in the process, Hughes, ever the advocate of the physiological dose, eliminated all the provings that were done with the higher potencies, thus eliminating much useful information."
