Dr. Constantine Hering (1800 – 1880) was born in Germany and graduated as a Doctor in 1826. He was asked to prepare a paper exposing Homoeopathy as a fraud and repeated Hahnemann’s proving of Cinchona only to find that Homeopathy was a true science and an effective and safe style of medicine. It was Homeopathy that prevented his finger from being amputated after a dissection wound became infected. Hering became an enthusiastic supporter of Homeopathy even to “--- getting up on tables and benches to harangue whoever might be present to listen to my enthusiastic speeches on homeopathy”. The first edition of this book was printed in 1835 and was the first Homeopathic self-help book published in the U.S.A. Hering started compiling it for the use of those he was leaving behind at Surinam when he moved to the U.S.A. It is a fascinating insight into how Hering interpreted cases and differentiated between remedies. It is comprehensive and covers hundreds of ailments – a classic by a master Homeopath.
